Welcome to the best vocation on the planet! You have accepted a calling that will forever change your life and the lives of those around you.

But, there is a big difference between mock patient assessments and your first time working a real live sick patient. Whether it is your first patient or your 100th, there is always that concern that "it is all on you now. You are 911. Nobody is coming to back you up". Talk about a big responsibility!

Do you get nervous, anxious, or butterflies in your stomach thinking about your first patient encounter? I sure did! It is a huge responsibility to take care of someone who is ill. What is more, you have to manage those incidents with poise, leadership, and confidence. How do you perform in those stressful situations? How can you be the best EMT Basic or Emergency Medical Technician Basic out there? Book knowledge is a great start, but, it is the way you carry yourself that will make you a top performer.

In this episode of the HyperAcademy All Access show, we dive into how to perform at your peak for your first or 20th call as an EMT. We will talk about:

-Pre Call:

-Beginning your day with a meditation

     -Staying in a mindful place

     -Being Present

-Rehearsing the challenges you will likely face

During the Call:

     -Confident Introduction

-Buying yourself time to gather your thoughts (SAMPLE, OPQRST)

-Delegating tasks to get people off your back

After the Call:

-Re running the incident in your mind

-Critically reviewing what you did well on the assessment

-Critically reviewing what you did poorly on the assessment

-Rehearsing the incident and patient assessment again in your head. Doing it all again tomorrow!

These tips will dramatically help you perform better and present yourself at an emergency scene with poise, confidence and leadership. You will dramatically improve upon your stature as an EMT and be a model for those around you.
